HOUNDS OF LOVE is the second experimental essay-zine and the textual companion to A TIRED DOG IS A GOOD DOG, PART TWO, on the occasion of the exhibition at Human Resources Los Angeles in November 2024.

HOUNDS extends Matthew Lax’s films and research on dog-training, dog-breeding and puppy play, with analyses of Toco, Lassie, Sam Fuller’s White Dog (1982), Hervé Guibert’s Les Chiens, Donna Haraway and Francis Alÿs.

A Dog Worries a Bone and Other Thoughts An experimental essay by Matthew Lax which explores discipline, faith, disability and family alongside the production of his long-term multimedia project, A TIRED DOG IS A GOOD DOG. Mining his own autobiography as a queer, Jewish quadruplet growing up on a Collie-breeding farm in New Jersey, Lax considers puppy play and his own process in conversation with other dog films, dog ideas and dog projects by Laurie Anderson, Donna Haraway, Franz Kafka, Diana Thater, as well as the Lassie franchise and others.
