A TIRED DOG IS A GOOD DOG, PART ONE, 2022

“My mother was raised in Queens, New York. Every year she asked her parents for a dog. Every year she was told she couldn’t have a dog in the city. She watched Lassie reruns, and dreamed of living on a farm with dogs of her own. On her sixteenth birthday, she received a box. “Open it,” her father said. Inside the box was a dog collar. “I’m getting a dog!” she cried. But she wasn’t getting a dog. It was meant to be a fashion accessory. Everyone was wearing dog collars.”

A TIRED DOG IS A GOOD DOG is an on-going, experimental film and multimedia project that investigates family, survival and discipline through human and canine behavior. Working with his Collie-breeding parents and their dogs, his co-quadruplet siblings, dog trainers, and the puppy play kink community, Lax explores the rituals by which humans tame and use animals to mitigate disaster and themselves.
